The
Maya town of Chichicastenango, in the heart of the Quiché
region, has one of the most impressive indigenous markets in the
American continent. It offers a wide variety of clothes made by
the virtuous Maya hands. The tour starts with the amazing landscape
offered which can be seen from the vehicle that will take you, traveling
on the sinuous road trough the high mountains, until the crowded
town. Neither Spanish nor English are spoken amongst the people
at the market.
The town has a church at the center of the market which a Mayan
rites temple at the atrium and a Catholic sanctuary devoted to Saint
John inside.
At this town the famous Maya book: The Popol Vuh was written five
centuries ago.
